‘Is your mam OK, babs?’ Patti gazed down at the girl in her wheelchair, hoping for a little insight, but Angel seemed more interested in getting back to The Vampire Diaries.

‘I’ll tell her you came round.’ She conferred a nice smile on Patti that also said, And now please leave.

When Patti reminded Ethan later that he was meant to invite Davey round for his tea, the boy shook his head.

‘He won’t come,’ he said glumly. ‘He’s not talking to any of us right now.’
